Obituary for Douglas F. Rice

Doug was born and raised in the great state of Maine, his favorite place to be. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, his years on the USS Everett F. Larson were a great source of pride for him. Following the war he moved to CT where he met his wife of 47 years and lived the American dream of starting and running a successful business for nearly 50 years. He was a loyal and honorable man who loved his family and lived a full life.
He is predeceased by his father Rufus Rice of Bethel, Maine as well as his mother, Mary Clough-Rice- Keniston of Bethel, Maine, brother Donald Rice of Waterford, Maine and Sally Rice of Bethel, Maine and leaves behind a loving sister, Donna Rice-Howe of Waterford, Maine. He also leaves behind his wife and best friend Sandra Rice, Guilford, CT and three children: Justin Rice (Susanne Bailey-Rice) Guilford, CT; Rachel Welch (Patrick Welch) Deep River, CT; Sarah D'Amico (Anthony D'Amico) Higganum, CT who were all lucky to call him Dad. Twelve grandchildren who will miss their PopPop dearly; Alyssa, Will, Liam, Luke, Colin, Joe, Cali, Ella, Taylor, Jax, Oliver, and Charleigh. Not to be forgotten are his three "fur babies" Angus, Otis, & Fred and many, many, loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was an immensely respected and loved human being.
The family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and well wishes. Ceremonies will be held in Maine at a future date.
